The Story of Our Heritage

our history

Originally known as Farmer’s State Bank, Heritage Bank started its story in 1930 in the small town of West Concord, Minnesota. However, our family’s part of the story starts in 1966 with Allan Organ. Allan was 22 years young, working at a bank in St. Paul when a woman whom he worked with approached him about an opportunity in the rural community of West Concord. Her father owned one of the local banks and they had an opening she felt he would be a good fit for. Allan and his wife headed down to West Concord and it was clear that this decision had changed their lives forever.

Allan hit it off with the owner of Farmers State Bank, Aldrich Iverson. They became more than just co-workers, they were friends and they were family. Aldrich and Allan negotiated a plan and agreed that Allan would have the opportunity to buy the bank when Aldrich was ready to sell. They continued to work together until Aldrich passed away in 1980. A short while later in 1981, Allan bought the bank.

In March of 1987, Allan received a phone call asking if he would be interested in buying another bank, having a hard enough time managing one bank, he said no unless the bank was in West Concord. The voice on the other line said, “Well then, you are interested.”

In 1998, Farmer’s State Bank bought the Dennison location in what is now Mar Lea’s Bar & Grill. About a year and a half later they built the building they currently reside in. During this time two of Allan’s sons, Ken and Erick were working at different banks. Ken joined his father in May of 2000, with Erick coming on in July of the same year.

Heritage Bank is a family-owned bank that has proudly served the West Concord area since 1930 and the Dennison area since 1998, and coming soon to Northfield and Dodge Center! We are committed to our community, and trust and care are at the core of who we are
